Oak Hill is a small city of its own inside Davidson County, with its own city government, bordering Forest Hills and Brentwood just south of Nashville. Homes here sit on large, heavily wooded lots off Granny White Pike, Franklin Pike and the hills around Radnor Lake. Most of Oak Hill's houses went up in the decades after World War II, so the typical one is a long brick or stone ranch with painted wood trim, deep eaves and a side garage or carport. Newer homes have replaced some of the originals, and those tend to pair brick with fiber cement and tall painted trim. On the older ranches the masonry is usually sound. The wood is where trouble starts: soffits, fascia boards, window sills and porch posts that have spent decades in shade.

Leaves pack into gutters, water spills over onto the fascia, and the boards soften. Before any paint goes on, we wash the surfaces, treat the mildew, point out soft wood that should be replaced, and prime bare spots. Finish coats are Sherwin-Williams exterior paints suited to damp, shaded walls.
Inside, many Oak Hill ranches still have original paneling, built-in bookcases and solid wood kitchen cabinets that are worth keeping. Painting them is far less disruptive than tearing them out, and our cabinet refinishing work covers the cleaning, sanding, priming and finish coats. Not exactly. Oak Hill is a separate city with its own government, though it sits inside Davidson County and many residents use a Nashville mailing address. For a paint job that mostly matters when you want to know whose rules apply. If you plan exterior changes beyond paint, ask the City of Oak Hill first.
We wash the walls and trim with a mildew treatment, rinse, and let everything dry before priming. Paint applied over live mildew fails quickly, so this step is not optional. It also helps to have limbs trimmed back from the roof and siding, which lets the house dry faster after rain and keeps the new finish clean longer.
Yes. Many Oak Hill owners paint over dated red or orange brick to give an older ranch a cleaner look. The brick has to be clean and fully dry, and loose mortar should be repaired first.
